A recruitment agency based in Edinburgh needed to replace its ageing IT infrastructure along with a new contract recruitment software. The client had survived the financial downturn of the late 2000s but its computers and servers had started to show their age.
- Low administrative support costs per desktop user
- Remote access to recruitment software via tablet devices
- In house email system
- Abillity to easily scale the system
- Options for disaster recovery solutions
- Suitable for remote access for satellite
After looking at a number of options the client settled for a Thin Client solution with Windows Small Business Server 2011. Three servers where deployed across two physical servers running VMware virtualisation software. This allowed the client to save money by only needing to purchase two servers. Deploying virtualised server environment also meant the client could expand its environment easily as the business grows. VMware virtualised environment also provide the client with a number of disaster recovery solutions.
For the desktop environment we deployed Igel Thin Client PCs that connected to a Windows Remote Desktop Server (Terminal Server). Easy desktop management was provided by the Igel Universal Management Suite that allowed us to control Thin Clients deployed in the local office and its remote offices in Inverness, London and Shetland Islands.
