What is Work IQ in Copilot?
Work IQ is the part of Microsoft 365 Copilot that knows your organisation's context. Microsoft announced it in November 2025 as the "intelligence layer" behind Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents. Without it, Copilot mostly works from whatever you type into the prompt. With it, Copilot can draw on the work already happening in your business.

What it does ⚙️
Work IQ means Copilot doesn't treat each prompt as a fresh start. It draws on your emails, meetings, files, and working habits to give smarter, more contextual responses.
Microsoft describes it as three layers:
📂 Data
It pulls together signals from files, emails, meetings, chats, and business systems across Microsoft 365, including structured business data in Dynamics 365 and Power Apps.
🧩 Memory
It learns who you work with, your work patterns, and which projects matter to you, along with the preferences you've set in Copilot.
💡 Inference
It connects the data and memory to surface insights and predict the next best action.
What it looks like day to day 🖥️
For example, when you're building a PowerPoint, Copilot can suggest insights from recent emails or meetings. When you start a project update, it may bring in the latest files and notes for that project.
